What is the COOC seal and what does it mean?
he California Olive Oil Council (COOC) assures the quality of real California Extra Virgin Olive Oil, through rigorous lab analysis and sensory testing by a panel of experts each harvest season. The COOC certification is recognized internationally for the highest standards of quality. You will find the COOC seal on each one of our bottles of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
What does Extra Virgin mean and why is it important?
Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the highest grade of olive oil, and must meet rigorous standards for quality, as required by the California Olive Oil Council (COOC). EVOO has not been treated by chemicals or altered by temperature, and is a naturally raw, unrefined food.
We mill our olives into Extra Virgin Olive Oil within hours of harvest, locking in antioxidants and high polyphenol counts.
What is the typical shelf life of my Gold Ridge Organic Farms Extra Virgin Olive Oil?
Our Extra Virgin Olive Oils are best when consumed within 18-24 months of harvest. Check the back of your bottle for the harvest year, noted on the COOC seal. For ideal freshness, we recommend consuming within 3-6 months of opening.
How do I know if my olive oil is bad vs. Good?
Purchasing your Extra Virgin Olive Oil from a reputable producer is the best place to begin. The three official words to assess the quality of an olive oil are fruitiness, bitterness, and pungency. Fresh, high quality olive oil should smell and taste fruity, green, bright, peppery, grassy, and alive.
By contrast, old or flawed olive oils can taste or smell like plastic or crayons, musty, flavorless, rancid, or all of the above.
Do you source any of your olive oil from elsewhere?
100% of the olives in our COOC certified Extra Virgin Olive Oil are grown and milled right here on our Sonoma County farm in Northern California.
Where can I find your olive oil in the wild?
We’re proud to work with great local and national accounts, including restaurants, merchants, and makers. Please visit our Purveyors page for an expanded list.
If you can’t find Gold Ridge Olive Oils near you, please ask your favorite specialty grocer to carry our EVOO.
