HEIRLOOM APPLE BAGS & BOXES ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR FARM SHOP PICK UP ONLY ON FRIDAYS & SATURDAYS
*Late July through August* Advance ordering required, harvest timelines vary by season and weather. Please note that certain selections have a short harvest season, so availability may be extremely limited.
Apple season begins at Gold Ridge Organic Farms with Strawberry Parfait, the earliest apple that we grow, typically ripening in early August. It is a small, fragrant, tart apple with a brilliant red-and-white skin and a pink-streaked white flesh.
It was developed in the 1970s through Rutgers University’s apple-breeding program in central New Jersey as a cross between Mollies Delicious and July Red. Asits small size, chewy skin, and snappy acidity points to the crabapples in its heritage, but you’llalso find Sebastopol's renowned Gravenstein apple in Strawberry Parfait’s family tree.
This apple takes extra care in our California orchard, requiring more time than others for hand-thinning and selection. This apple doesn’t store especially well, so it’s best when eaten fresh. You can find this variety in our single-variety artisan Apple Cider Vinegar.
Strawberry Parfait holds its pink color when cooked, makingit a good choice for applesauce or open-faced tarts or galettes. We love starting our apple season with these special beauties.
